Question by John B: What is the error between a paper map and a spherical atlas?

A scale paper map can never be folded onto a same scale atlas in such a way as to leave no gaps or excess. What is the error percentage between the two, I think I read it is somewhere between 6-8% but I am not sure.

I don't know what the error would be but you can try researching Meridian and Mercator Projections, as in maps.
A Meridian map shows a projection of the globe as a contiguous image with distorted longitude and latitude lines.
A Mercator projection shows an image similar to a flattened orange peel with true lines and gaps widening toward the poles.
